Downtown Tecumseh's 8th Annual Ice Sculpture Festival

The weekend of January 21st - 22nd is Tecumseh’s 8th Annual Ice Sculpture Festival sponsored by the Tecumseh Central Business Association, Evans Street Station, and Republic Services. It’s the city’s most popular weekend of winter festivities! The streets of Tecumseh will be glistening with amazing ice sculptures on display for all to see. On Saturday, the sidewalks will fill as onlookers watch the sculptors turn blocks of ice into shimmering works of art.

Festivities will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday with carving demonstrations and sculptures on display. Festival-goers can observe over 35 sculptures this year! Enjoy watching the carvers create sculptures that will be on display around the downtown area.

Dueling carvers will delight the audience again this year. Two sculptors will face off in a carving competition Downtown on Saturday with two competitions throughout the afternoon! The excitement will fill the streets as they carve mystery themed creations from suggestions from the crowd. This exciting event is one you won’t want to miss…It’s a crowd pleaser for all ages! The dueling carvers’ event is sponsored by Republic Services. 

The Winter Warm-Up Beverage Walk is back again! Join us Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm as eleven participating merchants will have warm winter beverages for you to sample and enjoy. Vote for your favorite with the winning merchant receiving the Winter Warm-Up Walk “Best Beverage” title. Maps will be available to indicate participating merchants.

On Sunday, experience the Chocolate Walk from noon to 5:00 pm where you can take a stroll downtown and visit sixteen participating merchants to see what exciting chocolate surprise they have in store for you. There is something fabulous and unique each and every year!

Throughout the weekend there will be ongoing activities for the entire family to enjoy. The Make-It Display-It Kids Craft activity is sponsored by Community Arts of Tecumseh and includes a fun winter themed craft at the Tecumseh Area Chamber Office at 132 W. Chicago Blvd.  This free activity promises to be great fun for kids from one to ninety-two.  

Don’t be surprised if while meandering the downtown you stumble upon a 10-ft. tall man entertaining the crowds. The Michigan Stilt Walker joins in the festival fun on Sunday with his creative balloon designs. In between balloons, he wows the masses with quick juggling and amazing magic tricks.

The entertainment doesn’t stop there! Everyone loves the adorable snowman character “Olaf” from Disney’s Frozen. You can catch him hanging out downtown waiting for you to take a selfie with him on Saturday and Sunday. Times will vary. Don’t forget to reach in his basket for a fun snowman treat!

The interactive ice sculptures, including an ice hockey table sponsored by the Tecumseh Kiwanis Club, putt-putt golf sponsored by the Tecumseh Arbor of Gleaner Life Insurance, as well as an interactive bean bag toss at Grey Fox Floral are just some of the fantastic activities you’ll find at the 8th Annual Ice Sculpture Festival.

Let the artisans delight you with their old-world talents in the Lost Arts Demonstrations at the Rooftop Café at the British Tea Garden, 112 E. Chicago Boulevard. Watch weave looming, knitting, spinning wheel homespun yarning, soap making, quilting, basket weaving, wood carving, Ukrainian egg decorating, and of course the antique sock knitting machine is always a hit. Items will also be available for purchase.
